GGSIPU holds 16th convocation ceremony
New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) celebrated its 16th Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday, conferring degrees upon 24,708 students, including 78 gold medalists and 82 Ph.D. holders. The event, marked by the Silver Jubilee celebrations, was graced by the Chancellor of the University and Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena. In his address, Saxena highlighted the significance of students as brand ambassadors, stressing that their character reflects not just their achievements but also the values they embody. He commended the university’s approach, blending ancient knowledge with modern fields like Design, Innovation, AI, and Robotics. Padmashri Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor, presented the university’s remarkable growth from a small campus to two expansive locations, boasting over 90,000 students and 191 programs. The university has achieved the highest A++ Grade in the NAAC accreditation and holds the 74th position in NIRF rankings. Chief guest B. V. R. Subrahmanyam, CEO of Niti Aayog, praised the university’s name honoring the 10th Sikh Guru Govind Singh and the land of the Pandavas. He highlighted India’s ambition to become the largest higher education system by 2047, aiming to enroll over 9 crore students.To mark the Silver Jubilee, a Postal Stamp, special cover, Commemorative Coin, and ‘Silver Jubilee Book’ were released. The event was attended by dignitaries including Smt. Alice Vaz R., Higher Education Secretary, Ms Sunita Shiva, Registrar, Prof. Gulshan Kumar, and Dr S L Bhandarkar, Controllers of Examination. GGSIPU, established in 1998 by the Govt of NCT of Delhi, has grown to offer 185 programs across 14 University schools of students and 2 Centres of Excellence, along with more than 110 affiliated Institutions.
